Performance Information

Model history, blend history and actual implementation.

Publishing since 1997. MGAM since 2013. MG Pro since 2023. Those are business dates—not strategy start dates. Every model and every portfolio blend has its own documented history, and every client account has its own implementation result.

A shared model process

Same signals. Three different result records.

MarketGauge.com and MarketGauge Pro receive the same model signals; MGAM executes applicable signals in managed accounts. Signal-based model returns, professional-firm results and MGAM account results must remain separately identified.

RelationshipWho executes?What the record represents
MarketGauge.comThe subscriberPublished model signals and returns calculated under stated model assumptions. MarketGauge cannot verify each subscriber’s fill prices.
MarketGauge ProThe receiving professional firmThe same model signal process, implemented by the firm. MarketGauge cannot verify Pro clients’ fill prices or assume they achieved the model return.
MGAMMGAM in managed accountsActual account executions. Any reported account or composite return must be calculated from the relevant managed-account records and clearly identified.
Historical signal validation

Absolute Performance Verification · 2023

In 2023, Absolute Performance Verification independently validated the historical MarketGauge.com signal records covered by its report. MarketGauge continues to use the same signal-distribution process while refining its models.

The report identifies the models, periods and procedures reviewed. Its scope does not automatically extend to later periods, later model versions, client executions or GIPS compliance.

History follows the model

A new distribution business does not restart the signals.

A model’s documented signal history may predate MG Pro’s 2023 launch. Earlier signals distributed through MarketGauge.com remain part of the relevant model history, with changes in model version identified.

Backtests, returns calculated from issued signals and MGAM account results are labeled separately. Company start dates do not determine those classifications.

Execution prices and account returns. Execution prices can be more or less favorable than the model’s reference prices on any individual trade. Account returns also reflect fees, timing, allocations and cash flows. MarketGauge cannot verify subscriber or Pro client fill prices.

Verifier credentials: Wesley Western, founder of Absolute Performance Verification, is listed on the GIPS Standards Interpretations Subcommittee. This credential does not imply MarketGauge GIPS compliance or CFA Institute endorsement.

Our history, model evolution and performance

Separate the business timeline from each strategy record.

A professional review should identify when the business began, when the model began, when the current version began and when a specific blend allocation began—without treating those dates as interchangeable.

Company milestones
YearBusinessWhat began
1997MarketGauge PublishingResearch, education and tools delivered to self-directed investors.
2013MarketGauge Asset ManagementThe advisory business for managed portfolios.
2023MarketGauge ProThe professional research and model-licensing business.

These dates describe the businesses. Each model, model version and portfolio blend has its own start date and performance history.

Four records to keep separate
RecordDates to identifyWhat it establishes
Model methodology and version historyFirst documented production use; every material change; current-version start.Establishes which rules were operating during each period.
Signal-based model performanceExact start and end of the issued-signal series.Hypothetical model returns calculated from contemporaneous instructions under stated assumptions—not an account return.
Portfolio-blend history and performanceFirst documented allocation; rebalance rules; every material change. The record of the specific combination. Component model histories cannot simply be averaged to create it.
Firm, client or managed-account resultThe actual account or composite period.Reflects realized execution, fees, allocations, restrictions, taxes and cash flows and must be identified separately.
Adaptation

Explain what changed and why.

Markets, technology and the global environment have shifted, and our research has led us to refine model selection and risk management. Institutional materials explain the purpose, implementation date and material implications of each change, while preserving proprietary formulas.

Continuity

Show the current process in its full history.

Results following a material update help a firm assess the process it would implement today. Earlier results remain relevant context and are identified with the versions that produced them, including periods when the strategy was challenged.

Model milestones: NQ3 and Large Cap Leadership have current production versions dating from August 2025. SMID’s earnings-filter alert lineage began in 2023 and received an additional August 2025 upgrade. Those model dates are separate from MG Pro’s 2023 business launch. Earlier results remain available with the applicable version and evidence type identified.

The first page of an institutional results package should answer:

  • Which model or blend is being evaluated, and what role is it intended to serve?
  • When did its documented production history begin, and when did the current version begin?
  • What changed, why did it change, and which periods used the earlier process?
  • Are the results actual accounts, contemporaneous-signal hypothetical results or backtests?
  • What benchmark, fees, costs, drawdowns, cash exposure and implementation assumptions apply?
  • Which records support the presentation, and what was the scope of any review?
Available on request

What the controlled request package contains.

The package is matched to the model or blend under review and identifies the applicable version, period, result type, benchmark, assumptions, risk measures and supporting evidence.

Dated results

Model-level or blend-level results are matched to the use under review and identify the applicable period, production version, benchmark and gross or net presentation.

Methodology & classification

Backtested research, real-time-signal hypothetical model performance and any other result types are clearly distinguished. The package explains the pricing methodology, fee and cost assumptions and why a contemporaneous signal record is not an actual account return.

Supporting verification

The package identifies the supporting signal records, calculation methodology, review scope and limitations, together with relevant drawdown, Sortino, turnover, liquidity, cash exposure and implementation context.

Tell us which models or portfolio blends you are evaluating so we can provide the relevant controlled package and discuss implementation requirements.

Important: No performance figures are displayed on this public page. Returns calculated from published signals are model results under stated assumptions; actual MGAM account results are identified separately. Absolute Performance Verification’s 2023 validation of historical MarketGauge.com signals is limited to the models, periods and procedures in its report and does not establish retail or Pro clients’ fills, later-period verification or GIPS compliance. Past results do not guarantee future results. The receiving firm remains responsible for its client accounts and trade execution.
